The Wedding Series
These paintings are from a body of collage work I call "The Wedding Series". They are set in Beirut’s macabre world of the 1970s, and depict marriages that happened while the civil war raged on. They celebrate those who chose love amidst the despair they lived in.
I want to highlight the vulnerability we all feel as human beings, yes, even within those who choose to carry guns. War is a disease that is eating us up. I wanted to take a moment to remind poeple that every man, every soldier, every civilian, every militiaman is someone's son, brother, lover or father.
Maybe if we can look past the things that pull us apart, we can being to embrace what could bring us together. I always ask the question, if violence begets violence, what could love do?
